Choosing a Daycare or Pre-School – Top Ten Safety TipsWritten by Michelle Annese
When it’s time to put your child into a daycare or pre-school, there is some homework involved. Here are top ten safety tips that are useful when looking for a pre-school or daycare center.1. Take time to make sure program is reputable and whether facility has had any past complaints. Either with parents, previous teachers or care-givers. You also want to know about existing teachers. 2. Talk with other moms on where they bring their kids. They will let you know if they had good experiences or not. 3. If you are new to neighborhood, go to receptionist at your area’s pediatrician. They know everybody! They pretty much have a pulse on community. Nurses and doctors are O.K., but busy. Receptionists will have time to answer your questions. 4. Learn about school or center’s hiring policies and practices. Find out whether they check an applicant’s references, perform background checks, and verify previous employment history before hiring. 5. Learn whether center or school welcomes and supports parental participation. 6. Make sure you have right to drop in and visit facility at any time.
| | Easter Decorating Ideas for Your FireplaceWritten by Susan Penney
Sure you decorate your fireplace and mantel for winter holidays, but don’t forget this important focal point in your room as Spring approaches. Here are some nearly-instant ideas for springtime and Easter fireplace decorating:Daffodils in crystal or glass vases on each end of your mantel bespeak coming of Spring. Tie a wired chiffon ribbon in a soft spring hue in a bow around each vase for a nice touch. March a line of fluffy chicks across your mantel. Five or more chicks, whether stuffed toys, porcelain hens, or craft store chickens, make a cute display. And speaking of stuffed toys, now is a great time to find those old stuffed bunnies and ducks and turn them into mantel ornaments. Add Easter grass, and scatter decorated eggs along mantel to keep them company. Tie wired gingham-checked ribbons into bows, and attach them to edge of your mantel. Let ends of each bow hang down various lengths from one to three feet. At end of each ribbon, open a plastic egg, tape ribbon’s end inside egg, and force egg shut. This creates a set of eggs dangling at different heights.
