Bush vs. Kerry -- Negative CampaigningWritten by Gary R. Hess
As presidential race hits full throttle, so do smear campaigns. Negative ads are becoming more important to each parties race as time goes on, it is degrading. This is starting to feel like hatred is only way either opponent believes they can win. The two major parties have been spitting and clawing at each other since end of primaries.I am a Democrat (actually farther left, but for sake of voting I am a Democrat), but I still feel saddened by way election is being held by Kerry. During DNC, Democratic National Convention, John Kerry said that he is tired of negative campaigning and will run a full legitimate campaign for rest of way. Then later in speech started to talk negatively about Bush, how can this be? Not only are his words degrading, but his whole attitude towards election is. Indeed he does have to defend himself against such things being thrown at him from opposite side, but he does not need to throw ammunition into smoking gun. On other hand Bush’s boys are definitely not angels. Even before Democratic Primaries hit main stream Bush was calling out Kerry as winner and bashing him. Not only that, he as well as Dick Cheney have down graded Kerry’s efforts during Vietnam and his voting record. Kerry’s medical records show that he was shot as well as had grenade shrapnel lodged inside his leg from a blast during Vietnam War. How can someone call Kerry unworthy of a Purple Heart when something like this happens? None less – if he did not get shot or had any medals or shrapnel in his leg, he still served for United States in time of war. He should not be penalized thirty five years later, especially while his opponent was no where to be found during same war.
| | Assault Weapons LegalWritten by Gary R. Hess
On Monday September 13th Assault Weapons became legal for first time in ten years. The weapons which become legal include AK-47s, Oozies and other automatic weaponry. This un-banning of weapons make it easier for criminals to get their hands on automatic weapons and cause more harm quickly and abruptly than before. The bill which made these weapons illegal was backed by more than 64% of population to be renewed however congress and president did not even touch issue. The assault weapons ban was put in place to stop criminals from getting these weapons, although it was not full proof it was proved to be very helpful in cutting down on crimes which included assault weapons. Days before weapons became legal Al Qaeda released another video telling its members to go to USA and buy assault weapons when they become legal. Since United States is one of only countries, especially civilized, that allows use and selling of such weapons USA will become a haven for terrorists.
