With introduction of low cost airlines, and rapid growth of internet users, booking perfect holiday has become easier for inexperienced internet user. Gone are days, where only people surfing net are techie's - welcome to internet age, where people of all ages are now using internet to go about their normal life.“You look forward to your holiday all year and you want to book it easily, and save money,” says Darren, a holiday rental specialist who runs, Worldwide Holiday Homes. “If you automatically think ‘travel agent,’ you’re missing out on internet world. Just ask thousands of people who reserve villas, apartments and cottages through our companies website. Booking your holiday online means you can look for best deals, and search in comfort of your own home.” Darren says rise of Internet has made it easier and more convenient to seek out and reserve a holiday home, why stay in an overcrowded hotel, when you get have privacy that a villa holiday brings. No more shared swimming pools, instead relax in privacy within your own pool. If you’re nervous about dealing one-on-one with a holiday home owner, don’t be. Darren says that some of nervousness is brought on by travel agents, who advise against booking a private holiday rental, as companies offering rentals are not ABTA bonded. Providing you get adequate travel insurance, and are cautious and follow some simple booking instructions, you can minimize risk: - Speak to owner of property, you can learn a lot about a person, and you'll probably feel much comfortable than communicating through email - which can be impersonal. - Each property owner will have their own way of processing a booking but, as a guideline, you should expect to pay a deposit to secure booking of between 10% - 50% of total rental. This is normally paid either by cheque or by bank transfer and owner should confirm booking and receipt of your payment by letter or by e-mail. - Check cancellation terms with owner at time of booking - deposits are often non-refundable and they may have a sliding scale of charges for last minute cancellations after balance has been paid. We recommend that you ask for any terms and conditions in writing. Make sure that you have address and directions to property. These are normally sent to you on payment of balance. Some owners will send you a key in advance, some may live on site and be there to welcome you, whilst others may have a local representative or neighbour who will meet you.
| | Have new technologies improved solo business travels?Written by Stephane Vergnaud
In last 10 to 20 years, advance in technology has transformed many aspects of business travel; from way we book our hotel rooms to staying in touch with relatives left at home. However it seems that it has not changed one aspect of it: feeling of loneliness faced by a majority of business people while travelling and in particular, while dining and drinking in evening at hotels. The latest Barclaycard Business Travel Survey (www.barclaycard.co.uk) shows that, whereas 95% of businessmen and women travel solo, 45% of them have felt lonely during their business trips. Technology has only help to reduce time spent travelling. The survey tells us that nights way from home have decreased to 4.1 nights per month from 4.4 last year. Technology such as video-conferencing has reduced need for face-to-face meetings. It has not made it easier staying alone in far away cities. Women seem to be even more affected by negative aspects of solo travel. Up to 61% of women have said feeling uncomfortable drinking at bars on their own and 34% didn’t like dining on their own.
