Barbados' Bougainvillea Beach Resort, owned by Gordon and Maria-Nancy Seale and Chris McHale, was named after Maria-Nancy's favourite flower. The bougainvillea cascades in multi-coloured blossoms fromrepparttar balconies and gardens throughoutrepparttar 133697 property. (Please click photo above for instant reservations!)

"The hotel was designed so that when you stand inrepparttar 133698 lobby and look down, you can see (and hear)repparttar 133699 numerous waterfalls and pools, you can seerepparttar 133700 lush gardens and you can seerepparttar 133701 ocean. "We wanted to bring everything Caribbean to our guests inrepparttar 133702 first glance." offers Sharon Hugh-White, marketing and sales manager ofrepparttar 133703 hotel.

Christ Church Parish -

Located in Christ Church Parish onrepparttar 133704 southern coast of Barbados, just five miles fromrepparttar 133705 airport, repparttar 133706 Bougainvillea Beach Resort began building in 1995 when sister hotel, The Sand Acres, situated next door, foundrepparttar 133707 demand was so great that they were always sold out. Each room or suite at The Bougainvillea has views towardsrepparttar 133708 ocean, garden and pool area.

Another thing I liked about this hotel is that it has made a commitment to help keep Barbados free from pollutants, such as cake soaps and harsh detergents. Awarded "The Green Globe Certification", atrepparttar 133709 World Travel Market in London, England, in October 2001,repparttar 133710 hotel also has "Green Globe Certified" workers on property who maintain their ecological commitment.

Hollywood may not know what to do with a gay character andrepparttar community may moan about lack of role models onrepparttar 133696 silver screen, but foreign films and documentaries tell a different story. Atrepparttar 133697 27th Seattle International Film Festival 2001, so many "films of interest to gays and lesbians" played that I could only see 14 of them before I had to take a break. "Iron Ladies from Thailand," and, "The Closet," should be coming to theaters soon. "Scout's Honor" played on P.O.V. to protests fromrepparttar 133698 Christian Right, and "Out ofrepparttar 133699 Closet" should be showing up on cable sometime inrepparttar 133700 near future. Watch forrepparttar 133701 rest of these movies, either to come out eventually (no pun intended) or as rentals.

This isn't exactly a gay film, but it is an extremely funny film about being gay inrepparttar 133702 workplace. Atrepparttar 133703 director's Q&A afterrepparttar 133704 film, Francis Veber (directed "The Dinner Game," and wroterepparttar 133705 screenplay for "La Cage Aux Folles") talked about wanting to make a film about political correctness. The setup is that Daniel Auteuil plays a schlub accountant who is going to be fired from his job. He decides to pretend to be gay so that diversity laws will save his job. Gerard Depardieu playsrepparttar 133706 homophobic, racist, H.R. director. One of my favorite scenes has Depardieu buying a pink cardigan for Auteuil and having to explain it to his wife when she findsrepparttar 133707 receipt. What's great aboutrepparttar 133708 film. besidesrepparttar 133709 laughs, is that it actually takes a look at workplace issues. Asrepparttar 133710 web of lies starts to unravel, The Closet spins faster and faster into an outright farce. My only complaint was that it ended too soon. The film exposes homophobia with out resorting to it.

The premise of this movie sounds highly unlikely: a volleyball team composed of drag queens, a pre-op transsexual, and one straight man makes its way torepparttar 133711 national championships in homophobic Thailand. What makes it interesting is that it's based on a true story. The Iron Ladies tookrepparttar 133712 national title a couple of years back, and are inrepparttar 133713 running forrepparttar 133714 Thai Olympic Volleyball team. The characters go throughrepparttar 133715 usual fish out of water routines, similar to "Priscilla, Queen ofrepparttar 133716 Desert," butrepparttar 133717 story is told with enough heart that it overcomesrepparttar 133718 clichés ofrepparttar 133719 storyline. There are some very funny moments. Even an attempted gay bashing becomes more a barroom brawl out of Gunsmoke than something more serious. Knowing thatrepparttar 133720 film is based on a true story and actually watching it are two different things. Atrepparttar 133721 very end ofrepparttar 133722 movie, duringrepparttar 133723 final credits, you get to see footage fromrepparttar 133724 real-life Iron Ladies and they kick ass. The actors inrepparttar 133725 film aren't half bad either.

"The Adventures of Felix" was my favorite gay film atrepparttar 133726 festival. Felix is a sweet guy in a relationship, and he has just been laid off from work. He decides to use his free time to hitchhike across country to seerepparttar 133727 father he's never met. The heart ofrepparttar 133728 film is reallyrepparttar 133729 encounters he has with various people alongrepparttar 133730 way: a young gay man who wants to escape his small town and has a crush on Felix; a sexy railroad worker who just wants to have some fun; a wise elderly woman, etc. In tellingrepparttar 133731 story, repparttar 133732 filmmakers show off France's countryside in all its widescreen splendor. In Felix's first stop on his travels, he witnesses a murder. He can't bring himself to go torepparttar 133733 police. The filmmakers (directors of "Jeanne andrepparttar 133734 Perfect Guy") use this theme to show us what conditions are like for mixed-race gay men in France, as well as to bring some extra depth torepparttar 133735 story. Felix is a funny, charming film with some wise truths about life.
