People always want to know how we create banners that consistently get good click through ratios - or more accurately why banner that they created, isn't bringing in hits - so we decided to create this primer.The most important thing: You have to grab viewer's attention and grab it fast, in less than 20 seconds by most accounts. This means having a banner that loads fast, if it takes 20 seconds to load it's wasted. With this in mind you'll want to keep your banners file size down to a minimum. It takes some experience to be able to produce a high quality banner with a low file size. This also means that, for whatever reason, viewer has to notice banner. How many times have you clicked on a banner? How many times have you surfed and been oblivious to banners. Why did you click on banners that you have clicked on? Animation: A recent ZDNet article indicated that a study concluded animated ads have a 18-40% higher click-through rates compared with static ones. Animated banners tend to get noticed more and therefore stand better chances of being clicked, and while this is objective you have to keep in mind that banner also says something about who you are. Sometimes there is a very fine line between effective and obnoxious.

Recently, I asked Jim Daniels why he had no information about Ad Swapping at his new site. He said he did not have much experience with it and asked if I would like to write an article since I have had some very good results with it. So, here I am sitting down to let you all know that Ad Swapping does work well. I subscribe to just one ezine, Ezine-Swap, Ezine-Swap.com, that carries nothing but ezines wanting to exchange ads. All pertinent information for ezine is listed: circulation, target market, etc. This makes it easy to pick out a targeted market like, for me, women. Some issues I send out 5 emails requesting a swap and usually get a 98% "yes" response. This last time I only sent out one request as I did not think other newsletters were appropriate for my product. This was a positive response, too. I have just joined Binky's Swap Club but do not yet know how this one will work for me. I have signed up to accept 4 ads and will have my ad published 4 times. I have to send a Courtesy Copy to each person that I run an ad for which is more time consuming that just adding them to my mailing list. Another thing I must be careful of is to not carry to many
