Air Conditioning MaintenanceWritten by Daniel Gipe
The average age of an air conditioner is 10 years; some units can run longer than that, some run with a much higher cost after 10 years. If not maintained correctly it can cost you double operating costs without reducing comfort. Today’s technology has allowed us to achieve better performance without sacrificing efficiency. In fact, today’s models are much cheaper to run than that 10-year-old model gulping up your hard earned money. I recommend to solve this problem of high energy bills is to upgrade to a Coleman 14 Seer Air Conditioning System through Yours By Design Heating and Cooling. If for some reason you want to spend more money (up to 40%) than necessary and not buy upgrade do yourself a favor and Clean your Air Conditioner before season begins. Foreign material on condenser coil reduces system's capacity to remove heat from house so your air conditioning system must run longer, increasing energy (up to 2X) consumption.
| | Hydronic vs Forced Air Heating and CoolingWritten by Daniel Gipe
Hydronic, or hot water, heating has been standard for years in many parts of U.S. It is seeing a surge in popularity at present, mainly because of increasing use of radiant floor heating, which is known for providing even, comfortable heat. Yet contrary to popular belief, not every home in free world needs hydronic heat to achieve this level of comfort. Apples to Oranges Hydronic heat is sometimes touted as more comfortable than forced-air heat. But since typical hydronic system is significantly more expensive than typical hot-air system, especially if cooling is included, this is an apples-to-oranges comparison. Customers willing to invest in a quality hot-air system, rather than a bare-bones package at lowest price, will find that forced hot air can be as comfortable as hydronic heating. Unfortunately, if heating system is hot water and home owner doesn’t spend extra up front to cool their home, their finished home may be still too expensive to add cooling system later and probably imposable to even install without doing even more expensive and inconvenient remodeling to accommodate such an install. Or homeowner may have to add a window air conditioner instead to each of rooms in home. Another system maybe a ductless system that is not as efficient as central split system design on a standard forced air install.
