A Business which Requires No Selling?

Written by Copyright 2003, John Calder

"I want to find a business opportunity which requires no selling." How many times have you heard that? How many times have you said that?

I hope you answeredrepparttar second question with "Never."

Let me be truthful with you here. There are only five types of businesses on this planet:

· Raw Materials Acquisition · Manufacturing · Distribution · Services · Sales

No matterrepparttar 105228 business type you pursue, if you arerepparttar 105229 owner ofrepparttar 105230 business, then you must participate in sales. That is, unless you begin your business with tons of money and you can afford to hire sales people to work on your behalf.

Sure, there are millions of jobs onrepparttar 105231 planet that do not require any type of selling. But you must remember that every job you have ever had that did not require any form of selling DID require someone else inrepparttar 105232 company to do so. No business can survive without someone inrepparttar 105233 company sellingrepparttar 105234 products or services offered byrepparttar 105235 company.

The jobs that you think would be great to possess that require no selling are in fact support jobs --- supporting those who do repparttar 105236 actual selling.

If your goal is truly to start your own business and you do not want to do any selling, you have four options available to you:

· Cancel your plans to start your own business. · Plan to take on a partner who will do your selling for you. · Make sure you have enough start-up capital to hire a salesperson to do your selling for you. · Decide to overcome your fears of selling.

WEIGHING THE OPTIONS

For most of us who have harbored dreams of starting our own businesses, repparttar 105237 first three items above cannot be looked upon as real options to our quandary.

For us,repparttar 105238 only option is to OVERCOME our fear of selling.

FIVE STEPS TO OVERCOMING YOUR FEAR OF SELLING

1. DECIDE to learn how to sell.

Some people argue that sales people are born. That is not true. Sales people have all learned their trade --- it is just that some had learned their trade early in life as a child trying to get their way with their parents. If at first you fail, you must try different techniques until you finally get what you came for. The next time your toddler is testing your patience, remember that he/she may be trying to learn how to be a better sales person --- to masterrepparttar 105239 art of persuasion.

Back It Up or Lose It

"That won't happen to me" is how many of us think about a computer crash that could wipe out our files. But you don't need to have a computer crash to lose all of your files, folders, programs, and emails. You could lose them because of a power shortage, errors in transferring files to another computer, or a partial shutdown.

HOW MUCH IS YOUR TIME WORTH?

How long would it take you to re-create that list of clients' phone numbers, addresses, actions, results that you keep on your pc? How long would it take you to re-create articles you've written, marketing sources you've been saving, your list of newsletters and subscribers? And how long would it take you to hunt for, find, and download all those ebooks, reports, and programs you downloaded before?

Much of it you simply can't re-create. For example, when you lose your email folders, you can't re-createrepparttar content of those folders even if you had savedrepparttar 105227 email addresses. It's all gone.

Is it starting to make sense why you should have saved it somewhere else? The extra few minutes it takes you to back-up your data is worth gold because you simply cannot re-create or retrieve all files, folders, programs that you currently have on your computer.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Backing up your data (all files, folders, programs), means you'll need to save your data to a disk, CD or location other than your hard drive. For example, you can save your data to:
