So if you can afford over $1500 on a computer and $300 a year on internet connections, you can definitely afford another $50 to make your computer safe (and prevent it from being used to spread viruses and Trojan horses behind your back).

If you’re not convinced aboutrepparttar cost argument, considerrepparttar 118561 case of David L. Smith -repparttar 118562 self-confessed author ofrepparttar 118563 infamous Melissa worm. When he was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment and a fine of $5,000 in New Jersey, repparttar 118564 court adjudged Smith's worm to have caused more than £55 million pounds worth of damage!

Againstrepparttar 118565 cost we stand to lose, repparttar 118566 risk of losing our priceless personal files, and being blamed by friends and relatives for infecting their machines, repparttar 118567 top antivirus software programs cost as little as 2 months internet connection. They all include constant and unlimited automatic updates that keep your system safe and clean.

And if you weren’t convinced byrepparttar 118568 good citizen argument that you should protect your computer to stop others getting infected, then it might be worth mentioning that there is a movement to make people not using antivirus software legally responsible should their machine be used as part of an attack (even if they did not know about it). (Note: I’m not personally a part of such a movement, but it does have its merits!)

So, be a good citizen whilst protecting your wallet and your sanity by installing good antivirus software and keeping it up to date.

Whew! Did I just sound like a commercial for these guys or what? Anyway, let me explain why I like Search.com so much. Being a metasearch search engine, it literally gives yourepparttar best of all worlds. It searches Google, Ask Jeeves, Business.com, Kanoodle, LookSmart, MSN, Open Directory, plus dozens of other leading search engines.

However, it's important to point out that they apply their own technology to these results to ensure that you getrepparttar 118560 absolute best results possible as fast as possible. Search.com also has some useful and fun features.

A feature I particularly like is you can actually preview web sites before you click on them, with their thumbnail option, by selecting "show thumbnails" or "hide thumbnails" onrepparttar 118561 search results page.

Another fun feature is you can personalize Search.com, by selecting one of five color schemes usingrepparttar 118562 toolbar onrepparttar 118563 front page.

You can also narrow and fine-tune your search, by clicking onrepparttar 118564 tabs located aboverepparttar 118565 search box. This will limit your search to Downloads, Shopping, Games, or "More" where you can research by topic.

Search.com also has customizable category searches where you can personally selectrepparttar 118566 sources they search by using their customization feature accessible by clicking "advanced" underrepparttar 118567 search box or any link onrepparttar 118568 research by topic page.

Now, all of these things notwithstanding, I have to warn you, there is nothing aesthetically pleasing about Search.com. It's a very basic, plain looking search engine.

However, if you can get pastrepparttar 118569 cosmetics issue, I think you'll find Search.com delivers some big time results!
