What Does It Take to Make a Committment?Written by Susan Dunn, MA, Emotional Intelligence Coach
Continued from page 1
You’ve committed to stay faithful to your wife and then you attend a convention where a beautiful woman comes on to you and your lust is aroused, and next thing you know you’ve broken your commitment and you’re saying, “I don’t know what came over me.” What came over you was a feeling from reptilian brain. You acted on impulse, without thinking. If you’re making a commitment, you must make it emotionally. This means you are willing to manage emotions that interfere with clear thinking and directed action. The mental part is making plan and stating it. The physical part is to take action and continue taking action. And then you must manage your emotions so you stay focused, resist distractions and temptations, and stay positive. Every commitment implies time and during this time normal emotions and moods we all have are going to occur. How you manage them will make a difference in your ability to bind yourself mentally and physically to what you’ve committed to. Next time you make a commitment, don’t leave out most important element. That’s emotionally intelligent way.

“Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find; Knock, and it will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7 So practice focusing on positive thoughts and learn to ask yourself effective questions that will lead to constructive answers. If you look hard enough, there will always be a positive side to every situation. And for challenges you must face in life, focus on solution, not problem. If you focus on problem at hand, you will never find solution. Focus on your dreams and they will become a reality. Ask yourself “How can I reach my dream?” Don’t be surprised when your brain gives you answer! - Glen Hopkins This article may be reprinted with following attachment: Copyright (c) 1999 Glen Hopkins ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Glen Hopkins, owns Motivational-Messages.com, your Free resource for daily motivation and inspiration, including quotes, tips, and stories to help you lead a successful life.
