If flash can be removed from camera, set it off to one side, where it will not shine directly into eye. Natural light is best solution, as it is with many picture-taking problems, but for indoor pics, increasing room lighting will cause dogs pupils to constrict, making red-eye a lot less likely.

The second issue is color of West Highland white terrier fur. The solid white reflects all light back at camera, often causing picture to be overexposed. If you have camera and expertise to do it, close down aperture on your camera one f-stop.

Dark-colored dogs, like Scottish Terriers, have opposite problem, with fur absorbing all light until detail is lost. The solution there is also opposite - open up aperture one f-stop.

To make sure they are reliable, you should ask breeders

· About checks done for hereditary diseases

· Health guarantee against them and what that covers

· Any refunds for a puppy you’ve chosen

· Getting a puppy pack and information booklet

· The right food for your Westie

· Stripping or clipping Westies’ coats, related costs and frequency

· Bathing

Honest breeders will have no problem answering your questions, but if you feel they are trying to avoid your questions, thank them for their time and look elsewhere. A good breeder has nothing to hide from you.
