You also cannot just rely on search engines coming up with your site. There are many other available sites that these engines can come up with. By time yours is shown, readers would have found what they are looking for already if not being frustrated and impatient first.
Web sites should have a proper and solid foundation to retain its place among others. With proper background and resources, owners can achieve this and be stable enough to hold its own among its competitions. Not only that, updating these sites would also mean keeping up with continuous streams of new and more sites that will still add to many existing already.
Maintaining your own website means giving it some quality time of its own and taking care of it way you take care of your business. After all, it is a part of your business and it also brings money in its own little way.
