From a hiker's perspective southern volcanic chain of Monts du Cantal is most enjoyable of three areas. Here ridges, valleys and mountains are more easily traversed without need for long detours or rock climbing equipment. There is an extensive network of paths to walk here, as well as some of widest ridges in Massif Central. At nearly five times size of Monts Dore area, Monts du Cantal is also largest of three areas, and so has ability to soak up visitors across its terrain. As a result, even in July and August, hiking paths across Monts du Cantal are quiet.

Getting to Parc des Volcans

The regional airport at Clermont Ferrand offers easy access to entire Parc des Volcans area. The Puy de Dome crater is only a ten-minute drive from city. In Vienna, where Mozart spent 10 fruitful years of his composing life, a rich and varied program of events will also take place. Some of Vienna's highlights include many evening Mozart concerts at Musikverein, performances of Mozart's greatest operas at Vienna State Opera, and special performances of Mozart's three symphonies under direction of Sir Simon Rattle at Theater an der Wien in December.
