The ultimate gameWritten by Adeolu Oluade

The master game plan set by God is outlined in a ‘roman map’, that is, some scriptures found in epistle of Paul to Romans: - Admit that one is a sinner (Rom.3: 23); Believe that Jesus Christ has paid price for one to be saved from sin (Rom 5: 8); Accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour (Rom 10:9-10); & Ask Lord to fill one with Holy Spirit so that one is motivated and empowered to make right decisions (Rom 8:1,2, &5b). Making right decisions guarantees victory so that one enjoys new life in Christ to full! (John 10:10b). If any person stops at step (1), he may end up trying to save himself by works. It is not enough to accept truth of step (2), one needs to take necessary step of faith! It is after these 4 steps that anyone can daily play ultimate game as he walks in Spirit. Part of ministry of Holy Spirit is conviction (not condemnation) of our individual consciences which helps us to know what is wrong in God's sight;forsake such wrongs by God's grace;and do that which is right in God's sight. John 16:8 (Amplified Bible) "And when He comes, He will convict and convince world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:" Star players who are celebrated by our society have all goals that they scored disallowed until they are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, that is, ‘the world’s successful are failures in God’s sight’-Luke 16:15. In eternity, God gives rewards to each person (participant/spectator) accordingly-Rev.22:12). No matter how bad state of any participant, whether it is a case of trickery of any 'opponent',or injury,or paralysis due to fear, Lord is more than able to save, heal, and deliver(Psalm 34:19)! And no matter how dire one's encounter or experience may be on field of play, the Lord is one's 'eveything' anywhere and anytime as coach, referee, mentor, etc.(Colossians 3:11b) In field of play, there is a special team of players(participants) in ultimate game. Each play is unique, and yet complements others.Fellowship of these persons at local level is inevitable based on foudation of true love(Rom.13:8-10).This team is church of Jesus Christ on earth and an 'all stars' team belonging to bright and morning star(Rev.22:16).

We shall examine two dynamic concepts based on 'covenant faithfulness'' on part of covenant people of God, who make up army of Jesus Christ on earth: CLOSENESS: This is in relation with one’s intimacy with Lord (James 4:8,Psalm 27:8 and Psalm 105:4)as one is involved individually and collectively (with other Christians) in spiritual disciplines such prayer, fasting, bible study, praise and worship. As Lord is jealous (Exodus 20:5) over covenant relationship, one should not allow anything or anyone to come between oneself and Lord to take his central and sacred place in one's heart and life. One should not allow anything or anyone to kill or dampen one’s hunger for God (Psalm 42:1-2 and Psalm 63:1-2). This does not mean that our human relationships are not important, for one is commanded to love one’s neighbour as oneself. CLOSEDNESS: This is in relation with world system around us. This world system is an ally of devil and flesh against God and His covenant people ‘who are in this world but not of this world’. Therefore compromise is not permitted (Col. 2: 8, Psalm 1: 1, 2 Tim. 2: 4, Rom. 12:1-2,1 John 2: 15-17, and James 4: 4)! This does not mean that one lives like a hermit in a monastery built in an isolated wilderness! As one reaches out to others with gospel of Christ in love of God, one should walk in wisdom (Col. 4:5) towards them so as to preserve one’s closeness to Lord. These two concepts shown us from scriptures clearly indicate how one can keep victory, and then go from ‘victory unto victory! 1 Corinthians 15(KJV) verse 57 “But thanks be to God, which giveth us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
