The Internet & Education: One Mom's Perspective

Staying withrepparttar Law of Intensity for a few more moments, think aboutrepparttar 109182 many schools in this country that remain segregated. Whilerepparttar 109183 war rages on in this country regardingrepparttar 109184 legalities of segregation in our school systems, many children attend schools each and every day where they have little exposure beyond television to peers from different cultures and backgrounds. Their teachers who are certainly figures of authority are their most vivid, and perhaps their only, link to other cultures. Websites such asrepparttar 109185 Academy of Achievement featuring diverse faces from different walks of life and Get Smarter providing children withrepparttar 109186 opportunity to interact with young people of different cultures are additional learning resources. While certainly not substitutes for eye-to-eye interaction, these types of websites provide additional opportunities for young people to interact with peers from other cultures and backgrounds.

Knowledge learned most recently is remembered best isrepparttar 109187 essence of Thorndike’s Law of Recency. And that is why those reviews right beforerepparttar 109188 test are so very important. We have also foundrepparttar 109189 hundreds of little quizzes onrepparttar 109190 Internet to be helpful in this area, for instancerepparttar 109191 Geography.miningco.com quizzes on U.S. States and rivers and more, repparttar 109192 Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) writing exercises, andrepparttar 109193 Who Wants to Win $1,000,000 ?—The Science Game.

Thorndike’s laws are by no meansrepparttar 109194 last word inrepparttar 109195 education of children, and because of that I spend a lot of time at sites such asrepparttar 109196 The Education Place and Education World-- The Educator's Best Friend. These sites andrepparttar 109197 many others like them, including my own website www.YouthPlay.org featuringrepparttar 109198 websites I have used in educating my child, keep us updated onrepparttar 109199 newest andrepparttar 109200 best resources in education and help us in making decisions regarding our children’s education.

We have heard it time and time again—whether we believe it or not. There is just not enough time inrepparttar 109201 school day for your child to learn allrepparttar 109202 things he or she needs to learn. I have found it to be equallyrepparttar 109203 case that there is also little time after school for me to dedicate to my child’s learning. It seems after career, housework andrepparttar 109204 business of running a household, repparttar 109205 time I want to spend with my child is not teaching time but chill out time.

But be that as it may, I have tried hard to make time for teaching as well. Andrepparttar 109206 resources onrepparttar 109207 Internet have definitely helped. While I’m doing some of those household duties, I can park my child right in front of that computer at a website that I have reviewed. And then we can get together afterward and talk aboutrepparttar 109208 site as well asrepparttar 109209 rest of our day. These sites have also helped withrepparttar 109210 budget because free resources are definitely cheaper than a lot ofrepparttar 109211 software out there—although I have definitely invested in that for Christmas and birthdays.

If you think that I have developed a computer geek, you are wholly wrong—although I don’t think this would necessarily be a bad thing. This a child who in addition torepparttar 109212 Honor Roll, is a member ofrepparttar 109213 school basketball team, several clubs and organizations, a team leader forrepparttar 109214 Odyssey ofrepparttar 109215 Mind competition, repparttar 109216 first runner-up for her school pageant and a social butterfly.

I truly believe thatrepparttar 109217 resources ofrepparttar 109218 Internet have helped my daughter to tap into all of her talents and haverepparttar 109219 potential to help other children to dorepparttar 109220 same.

Your Civil War Uniform Does Not Have to Look 100+ Years Old

Plus, think of your fellow reenactors and maybe your own popularity or lack thereof, if you smell really bad. The Civil War was pre-deodorant days. Some guys thinkrepparttar worse you smell, repparttar 109181 better your impression, but I would not go to that extreme. You can't diagnose smell in original photos.

My last comment on staying neat and clean asrepparttar 109182 soldiers ofrepparttar 109183 Civil War wanted to do is about hair. Most ofrepparttar 109184 men who fought inrepparttar 109185 Civil War ranrepparttar 109186 gamut - crew cuts to long hair. I think they cut their hair for hygiene hair to keeprepparttar 109187 lice down. I would think inrepparttar 109188 summer they would cut their hair more and inrepparttar 109189 winter they would have longer hair to keep warm.

The same would go with beards. A lot of this had to do with would depend if you had access to water, razors, etc. I would think in camp they would be much better groomed than on campaign.

In general, they were not sporting long ponytails or long hair very often. Long hair was less common than medium or short hair. Look at original photographs. As I have said many times, if you look at original photographs, you will see thatrepparttar 109190 hairstyles ofrepparttar 109191 day were neat and clean and short forrepparttar 109192 most part.
