Could public enemy number one, Osama Bin Laden, be gripped by myth of Phaeton? His father was generally absent and died when Osama was ten. The boy was then brought up by his mother alone. This would have made him available to living trend. However, nothing is certain because living trends emerge in a surprising way. They are unpredictable, unlike events that occur under known laws of interaction. But you can see how Osama could be living tragedy of Phaeton. His father was missing. And plainly, in his war against west, he has bitten off more than he can chew and standard 'pattern' of living trend is emerging. Osama's followers think that he is some kind of religious prophet. He certainly looks like one, with his Biblical clothes, general demeanor and apocalyptic utterances. But appearances can be deceptive. If he were a prophet, why can't he 'see' 'power' in which he is caught up and fate that awaits him. He can't 'see' because he is 'blind'. He is 'blind' like rest of us who must go on in 'darkness' and live out, to very end, folly which we call human life. It looks as though George Bush will 'blast Osama Bin Laden out of sky', thus fulfilling archetypal 'pattern' that was 'intended' from beginning. But should George celebrate his great 'victory over evil'? Maybe not. You see, George is living out his own myth and it is an unpleasant surprise that awaits him too. It looks as if old George is living myth of problem solver. This is myth of Hercules. Our hero is seen chopping off heads of Hydra, only to be surprised by more problematic heads growing elsewhere on body of monster. So here we have George 'Hercules' Bush chopping off Osama's head only to be confronted by more terror tactics from monstrous AlQaeda terrorist network. Here also we have George ousting Taliban in Afghanistan, only to create a 'vacuum' which sucks in an equally unacceptable regime. So George's solutions are turning into new problems. He is simply acting out myth that most of us are embroiled in. So don't celebrate yet George. We shouldn't laugh, because human folly afflicts us all. In a world where recognizable patterns of development are unlikely, everyday life is crammed with them. These living trends or vortexes of disembodied 'intent' emerge, in a surprising way, from a dimension beyond time and space. Call this dimension what you will - unconscious, heaven, hell, underworld, eternity, void, phase space, it does not matter. The trends emerge just same to enlist each one of us in a life of folly. They get away with it because we are unconscious of nature of reality. We think we are in control but nothing could be further from Truth. You see, there is a transcendent 'pattern' for development of Osama and George and you and me. But this never manifests because something goes wrong early on. A father dies, imperfect knowledge is imparted, unrealistic mind viruses are contracted, some unforeseen event pushes us off-track. For transcendent pattern of a life to emerge it must be evoked by an already existing role model or by a special teaching. The teaching is designed to help a person correct imbalances and become available to a 'power' that creates nice surprises. In absence of nice surprises, all you are left with is living trends of science, technology, religion and culture. At end of those beguiling 'paths' is an 'abyss'.

I can tell you now that there are many well-intentioned people in society that make it their life's work to set up scenarios where high degrees of imperfect knowledge prevail. These people want to create a classless society. They want to mix up different types of people and different classes, cultures and races. Their passionate intention is that love, peace and harmony should result. This has not and will not happen because when two different types of people confront each other for first time a degree of ‘imperfect knowledge’ arises depending on how different their thought processes are. And this ‘imperfect knowledge’ makes them available to living trends from which no good can come. This is why wise rulers of past were concerned to keep different types and classes of people from ever coming into contact. They did this so that incidence of ‘imperfect knowledge’ could be kept low and threshold leading to melting pot would not be crossed. Through these measures they sought to empower people in best possible way and avoid having to deal with human rights, race relations and marriage counseling, which become big issues after living trends have wrought havoc in melting pot of life. In contrast, many well intentioned people and unwise rulers of today take real 'power' away from individuals in society by placing them in a melting pot of confusion and unsolvable problems. The dispirited individuals (you and me) then feel obliged to consult nearest authority for help. So well-intentioned people and unwise rulers get to boost their dubious status and 'power'. Some do this unconsciously and they are simply foolish. Some may do it knowingly and they are wicked. The well-intentioned people of this world go to great lengths to promote moral conduct. They want to stamp out guile, lying, stealing, killing, greed, committing adultery and even picking your nose I shouldn’t wonder. The point about listed traits, with possible exception of picking your nose, is that, in any given situation, they will drive up parameter of ‘imperfect knowledge’. This, as I have said, will propel sinners and all participants in situation into melting pot and make them available to living trends. Since living trends lead to negative surprises, moral conduct is a good thing. However true reason for moral conduct is never explained or understood. Therefore moral acts drive up parameter of ‘imperfect knowledge’ making perpetrators available to living trends as well. Moral people are then constrained to live a double life, practicing their morals in public, while living trends make them sin like crazy in private. How often have we been delighted when a pillar of community has had their private skeletons dragged into public gaze by media? The moral is that if you are going to commit a moral act, know what you are doing and it will become an act of ‘power’. If you know not what you do, your act will be folly. The melting pot in which we all live self-organizes in shape of living trends. Because this is so, we can speak of types of self-organizing ‘power’ or vortexes of disembodied ‘intent’ that affect people individually and collectively in society. This makes our world a magical place. Within melting pot, it is only people who embody a true knowledge of reality that are able to interact with those possessed by unrealistic world-views or mind viruses. Their special strategy for interacting results in (a) avoidance of living trends and (b) accumulation of self-organizing ‘power’. The latter can then be used to create world of their choice.
