This could be simplified with an analogy. Suppose in 2005 A.D. we cannot drive cars. However, our science is so developed that we can easily invent an appropriate theory on internal mechanism of car. Now we find a car used in 0 B.C. and a book, say Bible, describing a person very skillful in driving cars, with a theory on internal mechanism of car. We do not at all agree with theory invented in 0 B.C. as it has many simple logical / conceptual problems. So we infer that person, very skillful in driving car, was (probably) wrong on how car actually works (i.e. its internal mechanism) , whereas we are (probably) right on its mechanism but are not skillful enough to drive car.

Galatians 5:16 says, "Walk in Spirit and [then] you shall not fulfill lust of flesh." Don't get it twisted and try to Not fulfill lust of flesh to walk in spirit.

For some reason, probably due to their engrained behavior orientated nature, most people read this verse as "if you don't fulfill lust of flesh then you'll be walking in spirit." or at least that's how most people put it to use.

Most Christians see their Christian walk as one where they try to reach righteousness of God by trying to make their behavior fall in line first. Relying on our power to bring us to spiritual place we want to be at is a mistake and most often leads to failure.

Tis' a shame I say. If this were a math equation you would have an order of operations that must be followed to get to correct answer. The order of operations isn't behaving like a Christian to walk in spirit. It is walking in spirit, then you will not fulfill lust of flesh.

Your behavior will fall in line when you are "walking in spirit." Because object of your concern will be your righteous father. You are allowing him to express his life through you and he knows no other way than to do it righteously and avoiding "the lusts of flesh" or sin.
