You can also pay to get your site listed on search engines.

Ask Jeeves, Looksmart, Inktomi (and more) all accept payment for including a particular website page in its database. Take a look at http://www.positiontech.com (Inktomi) for more details.

And it includes a useful auto-submission tool. The free tool - first auto-submit tool I ever used!! - submits your site to 13 major search engines. Whilst paid-for professional tool submits your site each month to 2000 search engines and classifieds - http://www.addme.com/submission.htm

I recommend hand-submission, but it's your choice!

=> THEN MONITOR RESULTS!

After a month or so, check to see if your site exists on particular search engine database.

And only resubmit your site if you can't find it listed.

(Do a search for your website URL; e.g. do a search for www.yourwebsitename.com .)

Or you could use following position checking tools, and see how your site ranks for keyword of 'www.yourwebsitename.com'

Note: there are much more sophisticated ways of checking to see if you need to re-submit your site, but they are out of scope of this article!

Search engines and directories can still be a great way of getting free traffic to your website. But you only need bother with a few search engines these days (particularly Google). So add your site to major search engines /directories and monitor results. And only re-submit if your site does not get listed.

2. Paste it into NotePad

3. Remove all # symbols

4. Edit "http://www.thenewsite.com" to site you want it to go to.

5. Choose "save as" from save menu of NotePad and save it as "index.htm" or "index.html"

Now you have a page that will redirect a new page or site, to check it you should be able to click on file you have created and it will open your Internet browser, show "please wait" and then load site you have specified.

If you save file in a folder called "new" and then upload it to your web site, then you can use:

http://www.yoursite.com/new for any promotion.

Now you have a clean link than does not show destination web address.

Now we want to take it one step further and know what response we are getting from advertising. Tracking is very important as you need to know what is most effective for your business, saving both money and time.

There are a 2 different ways you can track response:

1. An installed script -This is a special program, installed on your hosting to track both responses and sales.

Using method above you can also track how many visitors on your site click on different link text, creating better conversion from your visitors. You can use as many of redirects as you need, allowing you to compare real numbers.

The Internet being such a vast space, it's important, actually crucial to your success, to know which efforts you are using are bringing best results.
