The proper way to handle computer circuits is to wear a grounded wrist strap. Any electrical charge that builds up on your body is then immediately conducted to ground. But experienced technicians have tricks for controlling static electricity.

One trick is to leaverepparttar circuit board laying on top of an antistatic bag or antistatic foam as much as possible. Another is to leaverepparttar 107833 computer plugged intorepparttar 107834 AC outlet withrepparttar 107835 computers power switch off. This places ground onrepparttar 107836 computers metal case. Thenrepparttar 107837 technician works with one hand always on a metal part ofrepparttar 107838 case. Any electrical charge that builds up on your body is then immediately conducted to groundrepparttar 107839 same as with a wrist strap.

The important thing is to take static discharge seriously. Don't stick yourself or someone else with a flaky computer because you were too lazy to take basic care to protect against static discharge. ---------------------------------------------------------- Resource Box: Copyright(C)2002 Bucaro TecHelp. Can't Seerepparttar CD Drive in Explorer

Modern CD-ROM drives userepparttar 107832 same ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) interface that a hard drive uses. (Sometimes called IDE for integrated drive electronics). A motherboard usually has two ATA channels, primary and secondary. Each channel can control two drives, master and slave.

In Device Manager, click onrepparttar 107833 + next to Hard disk controllers to open that branch. Make surerepparttar 107834 Primary and Secondary IDE controllers are listed and they don't have a yellow exclamation (!) mark next to them. If one is not visible, repparttar 107835 controller may be disabled inrepparttar 107836 BIOS setup. If there is an exclamation mark, repparttar 107837 CD-ROM drive may be defective.

Eject Button Does Not Work

If a CD gets stuck inrepparttar 107838 drive, turn offrepparttar 107839 power torepparttar 107840 PC. Then insert a straightened paper clip intorepparttar 107841 tiny emergency eject hole onrepparttar 107842 front ofrepparttar 107843 drive.

Unusual Problems

Insiderepparttar 107844 computer's case, make surerepparttar 107845 power cable onrepparttar 107846 back ofrepparttar 107847 CD-ROM drive is not loose. Make surerepparttar 107848 data cable is not loose onrepparttar 107849 connector onrepparttar 107850 back ofrepparttar 107851 CD-ROM drive and onrepparttar 107852 motherboard. A loose cable may have worked until dust drawn in byrepparttar 107853 cooling fan accumulated insiderepparttar 107854 case.

The ATA channel master or slave assignment is configured automatically byrepparttar 107855 data cable or is configured by a jumper onrepparttar 107856 back ofrepparttar 107857 CD-ROM drive. If a new drive has been added, check this configuration.

Some software recordsrepparttar 107858 letter ofrepparttar 107859 CD-ROM drive from which it was installed. If you later remove or install a storage device, Windows will reassignrepparttar 107860 drive letters. The software may not be able to findrepparttar 107861 CD-ROM drive. If you can't reconfigure that software, you can go intorepparttar 107862 CD-ROM drive's Properties dialog box, selectrepparttar 107863 Settings tab, and set a letter to be used byrepparttar 107864 drive.

Some CD-ROM drives require a driver. Followrepparttar 107865 drive manufacturers instructions to installrepparttar 107866 driver. It can usually be done throughrepparttar 107867 CD-ROM drive's Properties dialog box, Driver tab. ---------------------------------------------------------- Resource Box: Copyright(C)2002 Bucaro TecHelp.
