The origins of Paradores go back to 1910, when Spanish Government assigned Marquis de la Vega Inclán task of creating a hotel infrastructure for vacations which would house travellers and improve Spain´s image abroad.

In 1926, through Royal Tourism Commission established in 1911, Marquis de la Vega Inclán initiated establishment of a hotel in Gredos Mountains in Castilla La Mancha, making wonders of area´s landscape accessible to tourism.

King Alfonso XIII of Spain was very enthusiastic about idea and he, personally, chose location. Construction began in August 1926 and was completed on evening of 9 October 1928. The hotel was inaugurated that same day and became first establishment of future Paradores Spain network, Parador de Gredos.

After opening of Parador de Gredos, Board of Paradores and Inns was formed and efforts were channelled into perfecting original idea and into making use of selected historical/artistic monuments and beautiful landscapes for establishment of new Paradores Spain.

The Plaza de San Nicolas, at highest point of Albaicín, is famous for its magnificent view of Moorish Palace.
