The aspirin is
one that inhibits
activity of
enzyme cyclo-oxygenase inside platelets. Moreover, aspirin was found out to improve
survival among patients with heart attack. And aside from that, aspirin is also easy to use, and since it is low dosage it is safe to used for anti-platelet action. Aspirin are also fast acting and relief can be obtained within 30 minutes and it is also affordable. On
other hand,
thienopyridines such as ticlopidine and
clopidogrel inhibit
ADP receptor on
surface of
platelets. This action of
thienopyridines of inhibiting
ADP receptors on
platelets prevents
platelets from aggregating and causing blood clots to form. The third anti-platelet agent is
glycoprotein llb/lla inhibitors which are considered to be
most potent anti-platelet agent, approximately nine times more potent than aspirin and three times more potent that
thienopyridines. Moreover, it is also
most expensive anti-platelet agent.
