Play The Piano Like A ProWritten by Ismael D. Tabije
Continued from page 1 Also enumerated above are 12 major chords. These are most important chords to be first learned in learning how to play piano. These piano chords correspond to those chords used in playing guitar. So it is possible for you to play your favorite songs in both guitar and piano. Just like in learning how to play guitar, all you need is to memorize chords and proper position of your fingers. There are 12 major chords enumerated above along with keys that are to be pressed to form each chord. There are actually many more chords and they are quite difficult to memorize and retain at once. Aside from being major chords, these 12 are easiest to memorize and remember. All other chords may sound so complicated in names but in reality, they are just repetitions or variations of major chords. The first and foremost thing to remember is middle C and its location because it is where other notes are based. The variations of chords are minor chords, dominant seventh, augmented fifth, diminished seventh, minor seventh, dominant ninth, major sixth, major seventh, minor sixth, dominant seventh with augmented fifth, dominant seventh with lowered fifth. Each major chord has these twelve more variations. Notice that 12 major chords take only three fingers to form. The other variations can include four and even five fingers but still play around major chord. Some song lyrics have major or minor chords only. In practicing, especially for beginners, it is better to start with songs with simple chords first. The technique is to memorize twelve major notes and then twelve major chords and then get acquainted with variations. In no time, you can play any songs and "used-to-be-complicated" chords wouldn't appear complicated anymore.

Now that you know names of keys, you are now ready for proper position of our fingers over keyboard. You should know that your fingers have assigned numbers. They also have their proper positions. The thumbs of both hands have number 1, forefingers have number 2, middle fingers - number three, ring fingers take number 4 and pinkie fingers are number five. You are now ready to do exercises. Starting with your right hand put your thumb on middle "C". Then place other fingers to following keys, forefinger on D key, middle finger on E key, ring finger on F key and pinkie finger on G key. Practice pressing keys one after other starting with thumb then ending with pinkie finger. Repeat exercise ten times. And then try reversing direction. This time, start with your pinkie finger and end up with your thumb. Do this again for ten times or until you get hang of it. And then try playing continually from thumb to pinkie finger then back to thumb and so on. Do same with your left hand but this time position your left pinkie finger on "C" lower than middle "C" then ring finger on lower "D", middle finger on lower "E", then forefinger on lower "F" and thumb on lower "G". Try playing keys starting from your thumb to your pinkie finger for five times. Then start from your pinkie finger to your thumb and then continuously just like what you did with your right hand. And when you get hang of it, try practicing both hands, then alternating right and left hands. The saying that goes practice makes perfect is irrefutably true. In whatever you desire to achieve, you must remember that it takes not only desire but also drive for desire to materialize. Have fun paving your way towards perfection!
