A3: "Rewrite your resume for every position you apply for." Q: How best can you present yourself on an interview? · Clean appearance · Good communication skills · Look like you’ll be pleasant to work with · Wear a nice suit that fits · Come in prepared to meet people forrepparttar first time, have a smile on your face – genuine one, not fake. · Enjoy yourself, you've maderepparttar 123521 cut. · Be enthusiastic. Q: So once you're inrepparttar 123522 door, it'srepparttar 123523 emotional intelligence competencies that count? A: "Yes. If you're actually called in, it's a matter of not talking them out of hiring you." Q: Is it a numbers game then? A: "No, it'srepparttar 123524 opposite of a numbers game. Apply only for jobs you haverepparttar 123525 capabilities for. Write a unique resume for each position. Don't just go to monster.com and click 'send resume.' Be selective." Q: Do you post your positions online? A: "About 50% of positions are filled through referrals. I post all my positions on www.monster.com. Also they should check www.careerbuilders.com ." Q: Why do you think there's such concern about age? A: "I don't know. It’s screamingly wrong. Especially in software, if you can find someone with 25 years experience, they’re gold. The perspective is so mind-bogglingly good when you get a team that’s diverse in age. Look, according torepparttar 123526 Age Discrimination & Employment Act, a 'protected older worker' is anyone over 40. Do you have any idea how many people that covers?" Q: What about negative things in your work history? A: "The way we look at it in HR isrepparttar 123527 reason you're here is because something wasn't right where you were. We've all been there. Why is it any worse to have been fired? Don’t sugar coat things. I’ll ask your reason for leaving and I’ll check your references." A2: "The Texas Truth in Hiring Act says any ex-employer can give any information as long as it’s true. So I might ask you former boss, 'Did you fire her?' 'No.' 'Did you ask for her resignation?' 'Yes.' 'Why?' 'Because ....'. I askrepparttar 123528 candidate beforehand, 'When I call your references, am I going to hear anything you might consider negative?' and then I listen."

How to Achieve Your Goals

Written by Ja-Naé Duane

Be creative: When one angle doesn’t work, try another angle Being persistent is one thing, but being persistent while using a plethora of tactics is another. Sometimes one approach to something isn’t enough. You have to try something new and innovative to help you get what you want. Get creative with it and start thinking outsiderepparttar box. www.creativethink.com is one of my favorite websites whenever I need to getrepparttar 123520 creative juices flowing. It helps me realize that there are no limitations onrepparttar 123521 angles I can approach my goal from. The only limitations arerepparttar 123522 ones I set and nothing else.

A good thing to keep in mind while looking for angles is how will people benefit from your product? This is particularly true if you’re trying to solicit something from someone. They have their own best interests in mind first, so they want to know how you will help them. A friend of mine used to send postcards to bars that said, “I want to help you sell liquor.” Of course his band gotrepparttar 123523 gig! So, start thinking of ways that others can benefit from you.

Be disciplined Discipline can be an art form……and it needs to be an art form that you learn to master. No one is going to keep you motivated but yourself…….so find ways to keep yourself that way. Some people like motivational signs around their desk, some people have their friends and family hounding them….you decide what is right for you.

What you must have is a to-do list. You are a business and your goal is a part of that business. Make a monthly and a daily to-do list that will lay stepping stones towards achieving your goal. Ifrepparttar 123524 goal is an extremely large one (likerepparttar 123525 advancement of your career), then make sure that you also have a yearly timeline. Life is a progression and so is everything within life. So, create a progression for your goal. The more steps you take towardsrepparttar 123526 goal, repparttar 123527 more likely you’ll achieve it.

Know when to give up When do you give up your goal? The answer is never. But if you’re having trouble achieving your goal, depending on what that goal may be, you may have to alter it. Or just take a breather, step back for a while and reevaluaterepparttar 123528 goal. Is it a feasible goal for you? If not, why? By stepping back you’re allowing yourself to have a more outside perspective onrepparttar 123529 situation. This outside perspective could help you see where you went wrong or to what stepping stone you need to go back to. Sometimes when we are so involved in something, we are too close to realize that we missed a step. Know yourself and know what you need.

Goals

Anything is achievable withrepparttar 123530 right preparation andrepparttar 123531 right frame of mind. Through perseverance and self-discipline you can discover that you are closer to your goal than you think. It just takes one step at a time.
