This is how I personally do my own keyword research.

It’s actually simple, but does require a paid version of http://www.WordTracker.com.

For my most common use, I will use ‘Keyword Universe’ feature. Note… there are occasions where best starting point is ‘Comprehensive Search’. Start there if you have a very generic starting keyword.

Here’s what I do…

I input my starting keyword into Keyword Universe search box. I then drill down in results that appear below this box and find top 3-5 terms that best fits what I’m looking for. I then click on first of those 3-5. All terms that are actually search on are presented in a results column on right hand side of screen. Beginning at top, I navigate through each of resulting terms and add any to my list that I find will be potentially beneficial to me. Wordtracker allows you to put these keywords in a ‘basket’ in order to use them for additional research.

Once I’ve completed going though each list (for my 3-5 terms). I will continue to competition search function within Wordtracker. I use Google and Yahoo as my market gauge. These are primary two search engines I generally focus on, so I want to know how I may fair in their indexes.

Now, most people stop here, I don’t. I use export to email function of Wordtracker and email myself results. Once I receive email, I import them into a program called ‘Keyword Results Analyzer’ which can be found here: http://kra.ez-search-engine-optimization.com/.

Once I have these imported and sorted through this software, I extract any and all keywords with a KEI score over 10.

Now, I have a list of keywords to work with.

If you follow my method, you will consistently find yourself using keywords that have greatest probability for being highly ranked in search engines.

To this end, aim to post several times a week.

If not, at least once a week.

Frequent posting creates dialogue that invites your readers to return to your blog.

It will increase 'stickiness' of your blog i.e. ability to attract returning visitors.

And they'll keep coming back if they like what you write about.

Blogging Habit #5 - Blog Honestly

Credibility counts, so be honest.

Respect your audience and all bloggers.

Words can live forever on net so be courteous too.

Manners never go out of style.

Ethics and integrity are necessary and keep your own standards high.

So stick to them!

Blogging Habit #6 - Encourage Interactivity

Blogs should not be a 'one-way' communication tool.

As far as possible, always encourage feedback by encouraging your readers to comment on your blog postings.

Allow your readers to air their own views.

Whether or not they agree with you.

Turn your blog into a virtual community and platform for exchanging of ideas, views and opinions.

Blogging Habit #7 - Link to Other Blogs

Highly effective bloggers understand importance and value of linking.

Linking to other blogs allow your readers to expand their realm of knowledge and experience beyond what you can offer.

Because you want your readers to have more than a 'single' opinion of topic in question.

And readers will appreciate your openness and reward you through return visits to your blog.

Bloggers actually amplify each other's voices when they cross-link with each other, forming a grassroots network of information sharing that can form social alliances.

Most blog audiences start with small numbers, but with frequent and regularly scheduled updates, your audience should grow.
