How the Hopi Create Their World

Written by Keith Varnum

We had not expected a living tour guide and eagerly bobbed our heads up and down to indicate "yes"-a thousand times "yes!" He nodded, took a long, quiet breath and began our lesson in creating abundance:

"Many, many moons ago, whenrepparttar antelope ran free, repparttar 130767 buffalo grazed across allrepparttar 130768 land, and my brothers and sisters lived in harmony with each other and Mother Earth, we would meet in this circle every fall forrepparttar 130769 most important ceremony ofrepparttar 130770 whole year. This most sacred, vital ritual was attended byrepparttar 130771 chief ofrepparttar 130772 tribe, repparttar 130773 medicine man, repparttar 130774 tribe elders and all of those who had achievedrepparttar 130775 status of a brave-the hunters ofrepparttar 130776 tribe. After many days of purification through chanting, drumming and praying in our sweat lodges, we sat around this circle in silence and waited untilrepparttar 130777 Great Spirit honored us with a vision.

"Then, one by one, each brave would see and feelrepparttar 130778 specific animals they would kill and bring torepparttar 130779 village as food forrepparttar 130780 tribe inrepparttar 130781 coming year. Each animal's spirit made an agreement withrepparttar 130782 warrior who would be killingrepparttar 130783 animal. For a period of time, their spirits would commune inrepparttar 130784 beauty and harmony of their shared intention. In this time-honored way, repparttar 130785 warrior would connect with each bison, antelope and deer that he would be providing forrepparttar 130786 tribe. When his vision was complete, repparttar 130787 brave announced torepparttar 130788 rest ofrepparttar 130789 group what he had seen and experienced."

At this point, repparttar 130790 Indian took a full breath and said in a very deliberate manner:

"And on this day, repparttar 130791 entire year's food supply forrepparttar 130792 tribe was created."

He stared at us closely to see if we heard his last statement. Satisfied, he continued:

"Each warrior waited until he saw, greeted and came to a mutual understanding withrepparttar 130793 spirit of each buffalo, antelope and deer before announcing torepparttar 130794 circle, 'I will bring so many buffalo, antelope and deer torepparttar 130795 tribe inrepparttar 130796 coming year.' And so it went until, one by one, each brave metrepparttar 130797 spirit of each animal that would come to him to be killed inrepparttar 130798 next year. One by one, each warrior announcedrepparttar 130799 food they would provide torepparttar 130800 tribe inrepparttar 130801 coming year."

Again, repparttar 130802 venerable, timeworn storyteller paused. With great passion, he looked directly into our eyes-first mine, then Tobias'. I have never felt such a piercing gaze. His look penetratedrepparttar 130803 depths of my soul. Dramatically, he drew air into his lungs. Repeating his message, he declared:

"And on this day, repparttar 130804 entire year's food supply forrepparttar 130805 tribe was created."

Once again, he waited until he sensed thatrepparttar 130806 import of his words was fully absorbed before resuming:

"After allrepparttar 130807 braves had proclaimedrepparttar 130808 food they would bring forrepparttar 130809 coming year, repparttar 130810 chief, medicine man and elders would blessrepparttar 130811 ceremony. All would leaverepparttar 130812 kiva knowing that on this day, repparttar 130813 entire year's food supply forrepparttar 130814 tribe was created."

Again, he waited, watching to see if we were fully digesting his last sentence before speaking again. He continued in a very emphatic tone:

"Inrepparttar 130815 winter whenrepparttar 130816 warriors could not go out hunting because there was a blizzard with snow drifts twenty feet high, repparttar 130817 chief, medicine man, elders and braves would meet again inrepparttar 130818 kiva and wait in silent, expectant meditation. Soon, fromrepparttar 130819 wind-swept prairie andrepparttar 130820 snow-covered plateaus would come a bison, a deer or an antelope. On its own, repparttar 130821 animal would find its way intorepparttar 130822 tribal encampment and then intorepparttar 130823 kiva circle. The creature would stand inrepparttar 130824 center ofrepparttar 130825 circle until it recognizedrepparttar 130826 brave with whom it had made a spirit agreement. Thenrepparttar 130827 animal would walk over torepparttar 130828 warrior, stand right in front of him, and calmly allow itself to be killed in a very quick and painless way. The creature gave itself up torepparttar 130829 brave, as previously agreed inrepparttar 130830 kiva, so thatrepparttar 130831 people would have food duringrepparttar 130832 harsh, winter months. For, on that special dayrepparttar 130833 previous fall, repparttar 130834 entire year's food supply forrepparttar 130835 tribe had been created."

It wasn't untilrepparttar 130836 Indian told us aboutrepparttar 130837 animals coming intorepparttar 130838 circle inrepparttar 130839 winter and recognizingrepparttar 130840 warriors with whom they had an agreement that Tobias and I finally realized whatrepparttar 130841 Indian was telling us. And atrepparttar 130842 exact moment we gotrepparttar 130843 point ofrepparttar 130844 story, repparttar 130845 old man disappeared in front of our eyes. Not believing our vision, we scannedrepparttar 130846 kiva quickly, thinking he must have been a very fast escape artist. It was thirty feet torepparttar 130847 edge ofrepparttar 130848 circle and neither of us saw him leave. He vanishedrepparttar 130849 second we understood his message!

Driving back to Phoenix later that day, Tobias and I discussed our shared encounter at great length. We agreedrepparttar 130850 Indian was telling us something far more important than howrepparttar 130851 Hopi used to create food for a year. He was opening a gateway for us to understand how creation itself works.

The message Tobias and I received inrepparttar 130852 kiva was simple, yet profound:repparttar 130853 power to create lies inrepparttar 130854 Present, not inrepparttar 130855 future. Creation happens now when declared with power, heart and strong intention. Then, that which is created inrepparttar 130856 Present unfolds in future time and space according to our mutual agreements withrepparttar 130857 rest ofrepparttar 130858 living beings of Mother Earth.

Reality: Real love and freedom go hand in hand. In a soulmate connection based onrepparttar optimal spiritual evolution of each party, you can maintain personal freedom while opening to profound intimacy. Give your commitment and trust torepparttar 130765 spirit, rather thanrepparttar 130766 form, ofrepparttar 130767 relationship. Sometimes lack of communication isrepparttar 130768 culprit, if you view a partnership as bondage. Identifyrepparttar 130769 amount of space you need to be happy in a relationship and learn how to communicate your desire to your partner.

Myth No.10 - Because of "Original Sin," I don't deserve love.

Reality: Original Sin was actually only an Original Misunderstanding. The so-called Original Sin we committed was that we thought we were separate from God. Turns out we 're not. The Good News is that we were wrong. There is no bad news.

Myth No.11 - Relationships take time, energy, effort and hard work.

Reality: The only work involved is keeping love away. We spend countless hours and effort successfully dodging love at every point of contact in our lives. Every encounter with another human being is an opportunity to receive love-inrepparttar 130770 form of kindness, generosity, a warm handshake or a shared laugh. Right relationships give you energy. Lousy relationships drain your energy.

Myth No.12 - If I open my heart, my partner can hurt my feelings. Love = Pain.

Reality: Other people cannot hurt our feelings; they can only trigger feelings that are already hurt within us. The hurt feelings are already present in our consciousness-in our past, our personality, our programming. In truth, your partner is doing you a big favor by bringing up a wound, a sore spot, within a loving context-forrepparttar 130771 purpose of healing and releasing it. It's not possible to avoid hurt feelings in life or a relationship. But you can userepparttar 130772 support of real love to moverepparttar 130773 hurt feelings up and out.

Myth No.13 - Another person can "fillrepparttar 130774 hole" we feel inside.

Reality: Temporarily at best! Only you can permanently "fulfillrepparttar 130775 whole" within yourself. Helpfully, for a while, a partner can remind you of what it feels like to feel loved and whole. Then if you surf that wave of connection, you can arrive atrepparttar 130776 shore of lasting self-love.

Myth No.14 - It's best to hide your Shadow fromrepparttar 130777 other person.

Reality: It's best to reveal your weaknesses and faults as soon as possible. It's not called "in-to-me-see" for nothing. There's no way to get close to someone and not have your whole self eventually revealed. Learn to dance with your Dark Side. Learn to love everything about your unique self-the whole enchilada, warts and all. The American Plains Indians revealed their worst deficiencies and flaws on their warrior shields. They knew that acknowledgingrepparttar 130778 truth of our shortcomings gives us strength. Full self-acceptance is our greatest asset.

Myth No.15 - If I just loose weight, I'll attractrepparttar 130779 lover of my dreams.

Reality: Weight has nothing to do with exercise, genes, diet or how much we eat. Maintaining our perfect body weight is a direct function ofrepparttar 130780 free flow of love in our lives. And our beliefs about exercise, genes, diet or how much we eat are a direct result of our willingness to have love flow freely in our lives.

Myth: No.16 - I'm afraid of rejection or abandonment.

Reality: Spreadrepparttar 130781 heartening news: We cannot be rejected by another person unless we have rejected ourselves first. We leave love-love never leaves us. This is a good thing. It means we are inrepparttar 130782 driver's seat. It means we can open-and keep open-the door to love anytime we choose. Find a way to move into more self-acceptance and your days of rejection and abandonment are history.
