How I Slashed The Load Time For My Website By 200-300%...And So Can You, For Yours!Written by Roger J. Burke

3. No Flash, JAVA, Javascript, SSI, CGI, Style Sheets, XML or DHTML is used. They all have their place, on web, but I don't need or want them at loading time. 4. All other TABLE formatting and all other .gif or .jpg files are placed after information in Step 1. All timings were done using IE5.5. As IE is predominant browser (like it or not), and looks like remaining so, I'm not too concerned about Netscape (in addition, there is an ongoing problem with Netscape and Moreover.com newsfeed that I have yet to fix). If you click on this link: http://submissionjunction.com/olddefault.htm you'll experience load time of my previous homepage. If it loads in less than 8 seconds on your screen, then your lines and connections are very good and your traffic is light. Usually, it has taken as many as 15+ seconds to load, as I said. Now, click on http://submissionjunction.com . It should load in 6 seconds or less, in off-peak times. And, at normal peak times, loading should not exceed 10 seconds (bearing in mind however, that in severe traffic snarls, all bets are off). Of course, with much faster CPU speed, browser would be able to format and present information more quickly. On internet, however, one must always cater for lowest common denominator. There are, no doubt, more sophisticated ways of achieving reductions in load time. If simple measures however, such as above, achieve desired result, why bother with more complex methods? Your objective should be to get your message in front of your prospects' eyes, as quickly and as easily as possible! Visiting a web site is much like knocking on somebody's door. After you knock, you expect occupier to open it quickly. If it's a store, and nobody answers or they're too slow, we'll walk away, right...and go down road to competition, right? So, quicker I get my message across to you, quicker we both win. And, isn't that what we all want? P.S. If you don't do anything else, even placing a comment like "Page Loading...Please Wait" is better than just a blank screen, while browser formats your page. But, don't take toooo long...!

| | How I Got Number One Position In Yahoo/Google and Altavista...On My First Attempt!Written by Roger J. Burke
Continued from page 1
I spent a lot of time getting title, description and first headline right and went through many variations before I stopped. (But, I don't have to stop - they can be modified any time at all I choose.) Only when I had finished *that* process though, did I then develop my final keyword list. Each page for website was treated in same way. But, although each page - and there are only eleven - is thematically similar, TITLE, DESCRIPTION, KEYWORDS and first headline are all different (content for each page is different also, of course!). By doing so, I ensure that I can submit all pages individually, should I choose, without being accused of spamming search engines (although, with only 11 pages, that was not likely anyway). When all was done, I submitted site (http://rogersreference.com) to all of majors manually i.e. top ten, which includes Yahoo, Google and Altavista, on Oct 17th, and made a note to search SEs in a few weeks. (I used an automated service to submit to hundreds of other SEs). When I checked above three on November 20th, there I was - page 1, number 1. You could've knocked me down with a feather! And, I haven't paid a cent yet to be included in any directory or search engine. The site is not yet indexed in Yahoo, but I'm hoping that will happen in a little while. Anyway, I'm not complaining! SUMMARY: Perhaps most important lesson I've learnt is that a unique product or idea for a niche category or market is crucial, being sine qua non for high ranking. This, I think, cannot be stressed too strongly. Secondly, whole domain was developed with KISS principle as paramount. The people who read through domain will be interested in *only* what I have to *say* and will judge it accordingly. And, that's how it should be. (Other products however would benefit from more page embellishment e.g. fancy video games, animation software, photography, art and such like.) And, finally, I've given search engines and directories what they want: content rich web pages in a specific niche, directed to targeted, interested people. And, isn't that how it should be also? If you're interested in finding my ebook product, go to one of above and punch in 'homonym+dictionary' or 'homonym+homophone' in search box. Now, here's BIG bonus: search results for above also include a link to another of my domains, sometimes on same page. Now that's icing worth waiting for!
