HappinessWritten by Laurent Grenier

Some will say that happiness in its so-called fullest sense leaves something more to be desired: power to make this happiness infinite: immeasurably great and unlimited in duration. Among them, some will choose path of faith, which allegedly leads to a heavenly afterlife, whereas some will choose path of reason, which admits of no rosy belief based on wishful thinking and unbridled trust. This path leads nowhere as far as beyond is concerned, or rather somewhere that is unknown – presumably so different from what is known that it totally exceeds our ability to conceive of its nature. I count among these proponents of reason, these infidels, to whom only source of meaning is not a paradisiacal destination, whose existence is supported by no credible evidence, but journey itself, a rugged and uphill journey to be sure, with an abundance of twists and turns, some of which are propitious, others not. This journey is well worth trouble, in my opinion. It is so independently of above-mentioned destination, which people are free to pursue blindly or regard with skepticism (and with detachment to boot, in best case scenario). It is all about dignity of living and loving and pleasure of succeeding in these difficult assignments. From this perspective, purpose of life is none other than life itself, in partnership with our fellow creatures; and happiness is made possible – within certain limits – by our striving to achieve this worthy, albeit humble purpose. The limits imposed upon worldly happiness may initially stick in our craw, but after due consideration, as we realize that life without these limits would be death, we accept them, and better still we welcome them. Life is by definition a dynamic state that presupposes a perpetual tension between desires and their satisfaction. Render this satisfaction absolute, you resolve this tension and consequently reduce life to nothing; i.e., something as inert as a stone. And this nothing – this inert something – is death, as I just pointed out. Not a brilliant prospect in eyes of a life lover!

*Replace your emotions with better ones! When you begin to go in to an emotional state that you dislike, change it. Here is a simple method that really works! 1. Calm yourself as much as possible by taking several deep breaths and closing your eyes. Relax your body as much as you can, given circumstances. 2. Focus your attention on a spot inside your brain. Even with your eyes from front and about half an inch in front of you ears. It is less important that you be exactly on target than that you become aware of feeling inside your head. 3. Imagine a small point of ticklish pleasure at this point, near center of your brain. Really try to feel it. 4. Now, every time you inhale, imagine this point of pleasure getting bigger and stronger. 5. On every exhalation feel pleasure hold its position. 6. Let feeling grow until it fills your head. Then let it run down your spine, sending pleasure out into your body. What you have just done is create a release of endorphins into your system. By increasing amount of pleasure you feel, you will also increase amount of endorphin release! *Pretend your way to total control. By pretending you are in control of yourself, you can increase your actual control. By this I don’t mean acting like you are in control on a shallow outer level. Rather try to internalize it. Become particular state you want to feel as much as possible. Run over how you wish to feel and what it is you wish to be thinking. Let it sink in completely. If another thought or emotion intrudes, just acknowledge it, then set it aside. With just a little practice, and by a little I mean less that a days worth, you can turn your “pretending” into direct and complete personal mind control. These are all techniques that anyone can do without special training. Do they represent only things you can do? Not by a long shot. In near future I will release a follow up article that will illustrate how you can use your own innate psychic abilities to reinforce your meditations and mind control efforts. These new techniques will likely open up a world of self-control for you that few have ever mastered. Until then, remember that you have power, skills and responsibility to yourself to control your own mental and emotional state. It is up to you.
