What is PCR test for HIV ?-- PCR stands for Polymerase Chain reaction. It is an advanced test that detects HIV even if it is present inrepparttar blood in very small quantity. Hence it can detectrepparttar 115599 presence of HIV much earlier as compared to ELISA, thus decreasingrepparttar 115600 window period considerably. Similarly testing for p24 antigen is also a test that can decreaserepparttar 115601 window period.

If a p24 test becomes negative after being positive earlier, does it mean thatrepparttar 115602 person has been cured of HIV infection ?-- NO. p24 is an antigen of HIV. Once HIV entersrepparttar 115603 body it is found inrepparttar 115604 blood in high quantity. The test is thus found to be positive at this time. After about 2 to six monthsrepparttar 115605 virus goes into hiding inrepparttar 115606 lymph nodes. At this timerepparttar 115607 p24 is likely to become negative. However this isrepparttar 115608 normal progression of HIV infection & does not mean thatrepparttar 115609 patient has been cured of HIV infection
