Domain Name - How To Pick OneWritten by Halstatt Pires

The third issue concerns nature of your site and search engine optimization. If you are shooting for a particular keyword phrase, you may be better off using that keyword phrase in your domain name. Google, for instance, looks at domain name when evaluating a site. If words in your domain name are spaced with dashes, many believe it will help in ranking process. This is why you see so many xxx-xxxx-xxx.com domain names on net. If your business focuses on a very specific area, strong consideration should be given to using relevant keywords in your domain name. Finally, your domain name should end in “.com” and I don’t want to hear any argument or see any rolling of eyes. The simple fact is that when people think of sites, they always type in .com. Yes, there are other extensions and .us, .net, .biz, etc., may seem unique, but it kills your traffic. Pavlov and his dog experiments had it right. People have been mentally conditioned to type in .com, so don’t select any other ending. If you do, a smart competitor will register .com version of your name to get some free traffic. If you are really lucky, a porn site will do it! Take a breath before you select a domain name. Like a spouse, it can be either a good or bad choice.

Getting a high ranking in results page of searches isn't a matter of luck, but is about understanding algorithms used by various companies and applying optimization techniques to greatly improve your ranking position. Optimization, and specifically SEO, is our business - this is all we do. We don't design websites - there are better people than us to do this for you. How do we do this? We continually track mathematical algorithms used, as these are continually being modified with different weightings being applied to various parameters. The two partners in our company are both Mathematicians with over 50 years experience in IT industry. This may give you some idea of why web designers don't optimise sites and we do. So can we anyone guarantee number 1 spot on Google? Our answer is no. However, across a basket of companies, e.g. Google, MSN, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, AltaVista, optimization can be achieved. In fact, we are so confident that we will guarantee that your company will appear on first page results of at least 3 of 5 companies shown above or you don't pay us. Yes, that's right - we don't want or need your money, unless we can provide you with this level of service. http://www.searchoptimisationengine.com
