Does Becoming a Published Author Enhance a Business?Written by Vishal P. Rao

4. "Negative fans" may appear. These are individuals that seem to magically appear who disagree wholeheartedly with published materials, and may very well create havoc for author and publisher. Jealousy is many times a motive here, but motives are varied. This is an occupational hazard for all authors and publishers. 5. Legalities must be followed to letter. All copyright laws, distribution laws, and all other laws pertaining to authoring and publishing must be followed explicitly. Many "novice" authors and publishers are unaware of these, and find themselves in a "legal mess". A consultation with a lawyer versed in copyright is usually in order prior to authoring and publishing. 6. Plagiarism is rife in world of writing, authoring, and publishing. Especially if a work is good, there will probably be recurring instances of this. Methods to defeat this behavior, such as online security measures and offline follow up, leads to an increase in overall costs. Overall, any work must be extremely well written and professional to succeed. Many times, beginning authors and publishers, who have never written a word prior to this in trying to contain costs, will attempt to churn out work themselves, leading to a disorganized, somewhat "unreadable" work. It is always prudent, if a person is not a writer themselves, to hire a ghostwriter that is proven, to effectively write "best materials" possible. A publication that is disorganized and ineffective, will not "sell" in end, and only cost author and publisher more money overall as charge backs and returns will occur frequently, and materials will need to be redone eventually. Also, there seems to be a wave of new books appearing each month, that are written by those that know "little to nothing" of materials they propose to be experts on. This is largest mistake possible in world of authoring and publishing. No one can be an "expert" on something that they know "nothing" about. Readers are quick to "catch on" when an author or publisher knows nothing about subject matter. If in doubt, forego authoring and publishing until you have become an "expert" rather than write about a subject that you know nothing about, or pick a subject in which you do have a good grasp of materials. Be truthful, be honest, be adept, and be determined, and if you do choose to author and publish, you will indeed see success and a great business benefit! To be less than truthful, honest, adept and determined, and authoring and publishing will soon become a nightmare!

Continued from page 1 Before you go to next step, you must schedule time for yourself. Give yourself at least ten to fifteen minutes each and every day for you to be with yourself! Do not overlap anything else with this block of time. This is time for you to enjoy a cup of tea, read, talk to a friend on phone - just whatever you like to do. This small amount of "Me time" will give you intellectual and physical energy your body needs to carry you through each day. Your schedule is most likely getting very full by now. At same time, I'm willing to bet you're surprised there are available blocks of time left over. Now is when you add items from your wish list. However, be careful not to fill up every available minute of time there is. If you do so, I guarantee you'll end up frustrated at not fulfilling your daily tasks. Keep in mind that your children will require your help for homework, your spouse will need you to help with a project or lend a supportive ear and your mother will call when she's not "scheduled" to.Keep your planner with you at all times. Refer to it hourly and check off completed tasks immediately. You'll soon realize you are accomplishing far more than you were before and you're far more productive than you thought imaginable. Lastly, when you're working, place a sign on your door, forward your calls to voice mail (if possible. However, look at your call display as calls are coming in, just in case your child's school is calling or your spouse is calling from work - it may be urgent) and send your family and friends a cheerful email telling them your working hours for week. You need to make it as easy as possible for you to be productive while you're working. If you have toddlers around, have a "Special Toybox" (a Rubbermaid or Tupperware container will do) filled with some of their favorite toys. Pull this out when you're working and make a big deal about it. Let them know that while you're working, they get to play with "Special Toybox" items and when you're done, that toybox goes away. They will be less likely to wander around and interrupt you if they know their time is limited to play with these toys. Most importantly, remember days of June Cleaver are long gone. Besides, I never saw old June parked in front of her computer, answering umpteen different emails, calling customers while at same time, getting dinner ready! Life is not perfect and neither are we. Do best you can with what you have available to you. And always remember, your child's request for a hug should outweigh anything else your have scheduled!
