Celery Lowers Blood PressureWritten by Marilyn Pokorney

When diet is high in salt sodium is retained in cells with a large amount of water. An abundant amount of potassium is necessary to displace accumulated sodium in cells. If potassium is not present, tissue cells retain water with sodium. For this reason doctors prescribe diuretics, commonly called "water pills" in order to remove water. When diuretics are taken to lower blood pressure, they work by removing sodium from body. But when sodium is removed, potassium is also removed. For this reason potassium supplements are usually prescribed in conjunction with hypertension drug. Celery contains a natural diuretic substance and has been used traditionally in treating obesity because it tends to eliminate water weight. But balance between sodium and potassium is not unbalanced as it is when synthetic drugs are taken. For people who have blood pressure which is only mildly or moderately high, eating of celery may be all that is needed to lower it to normal levels. But even for those who have extremely high blood pressure readings, celery can be helpful. Celery is an excellent diuretic that can improve effectiveness of high blood pressure medication, meaning that dosage of medication may be reduced. * Drinking water – When eating your meal, don’t drink any cold liquid. Cold liquid in stomach decreases digestive activity and your food will take longer to digest. It is best not to drink any water with your meal since this decrease strength of your hydrochloric acid. If you have to drink water to clear your throat use water at room temperature. * Vegetables – Eat vegetables with lunch and dinner and decrease amount of meat and protein you eat. Don’t over eat since this puts an extra load on your stomach and you may not be able to digest all this food. Try eating your vegetables raw when possible since this gives you extra enzymes and plenty of minerals. Any time you eat bread eat it with some vegetables. Bread is hard to digest and added fiber helps its digestion and helps to move it through colon faster. Just doing these three suggestions will help you improve your digestion and help to relieve your acid reflux. Concentrate on changing your eating habits and types and quantities of food that you eat, if you want to stop effects of acid reflux.
