Bringing Music to ArtWritten by Debbie Jensen

In music, rhythm can slow down and speed up, pause or sustain a tone, leap, or even freeze for an instant; but if rhythm breaks--sadly, moment is lost. Is art any different? Isn't this concept similar to what we know as a design principle? Each piece of artwork whether it be 2-D or 3-D needs to pull together as a unit and needs to have same feeling of completeness in same way as expected in a song; that is, at least to point of solving all design problems related to it. Next time you find yourself stuck, creatively speaking, turn on music which harmonizes with piece you are working on. Amazingly, in way songs are written and in way words are expressed within them, pianists vary way they choose to strike keys. So, why wouldn't music influence how artist's brush strikes canvas? To experience what I'm trying to convey, close your eyes and draw with your imaginary pen or brush and strike air as music influences you; and let music influence how you make your abstract design. If brush strokes and lines are artists' signatures, then why not let your signatures be influenced by audio multimedia? --------------------------------------- © 2005 Debbie Jensen "Black and White Piano Keys Composition"

Contrary to popular belief, astronauts did not read from Bibles, as they would have required fireproof plastic covering and been difficult to get to. So just before launch time, three astronauts decided to type Genesis selection right onto their flame-resistant flight plan. Frank Borman, a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Houston, is credited with idea. Later he joked, “One of truly historical things was that we got that good Roman Catholic, Bill Anders, to read from King James Version.” Over 100,000 letters poured into NASA’s Houston headquarters, with praise for Bible reading running 1,000 to 1. The New York Board of Rabbis said, “Your reading from Genesis evoked a responsive chord in hearts of all spiritually attuned people throughout this good earth…” A few verses from Genesis were appropriately typed on flight plan of Apollo 8. All of Bible, typed indelibly into our lives, would make a good flight plan for humanity. Terry Dashner
