The city of Potosi in Cordillera Oriental became well--known for huge silver deposits in its surroundings. Zinc, copper, and other ores were found there. Bolivia's tin deposits provided a large portion of country's export income throughout most of twentieth century. But in 1980's, tin reserves declined and that along with weak world prices reached point where Bolivia's antiquated mining methods forced industry to all but shut down.

Oil and gas are now accounting for an increasing portion of foreign revenues. Bolivia exports much of it gas to Argentina and Brazil. In return, Brazil is commtted to assisting development of corridor between Santa Cruz and Corumba, Brazil, in southeastern lowlands. It is here that commercial agriculture--especially soybeans--is on rise.

Comparatively democratic civilian rule was established in 1982, but leaders have faced difficult problems of deep-seated poverty, social unrest, and drug production. Current goals include attracting foreign investment, strengthening educational system, resolving disputes with coca growers over Bolivia's counterdrug efforts, and waging an anticorruption campaign. The country does have its problems, but it also has its optimism.

* Physical Therapy Aide: 480 Hours. Program is instructed during daytime and evening hours. Individual classes include: Basic Medical Terminology; Anatomy & Physiology; Massage Therapy; Physical Therapy Aide; and Externship. Upon successful completion, graduates may become employed as a Physical Therapy Aide.

* Medical Office Management & Medical Billing: 500 Hours. Program is instructed during daytime and evening hours. Individual classes include: Medical Terminology; Anatomy and Physiology; Medical Office Administration; Medical Billing Forms with Practical Application; General Office Procedures; and Medical Billing Simulated Practice. Upon successful completion, graduates are issued a diploma.

* Medical Assistant: 720 Hours, including 660 classroom hours, and 60 externship hours. Program includes daytime and evening hours. Individual classes include: Medical Terminology; Anatomy and Physiology; Microbiology; CPR and First Aid; Vital Signs and Anthopometric Measurement, Biologic Aspects of Behavior; EKG, Specialty Examination; Microbiology, Urinalysis; Hematology, Phlebotomy; Pharmacology; and Advanced Medical Procedures, Minor Surgery. Graduates receive a certificate upon completion and become eligible to take Certified Medical Assistant Exam sponsored by American Association of Medical Assistants.

* Hypnotherapy Program: 50 Class Hours for each: Level One, Level Two, and/or Level Three in Hypnotherapy. Program includes daytime and evening courses. Classes are given through demonstration, lectures, practice and direct experience. Graduates receive a state-approved diploma in Hypnotherapy with embossed seal of state-licensed Meridian Institute.
