Basic Palmistry IWritten by Sam Stevens
Continued from page 1 Below Mount of Jupiter (follow index finger downwards) lies Lower Mars, which deals with aggression, hostility and capacity for evil. The center of palm is called Plane of Mars. If plane has a dip in it you are calm, cool and collected. If it is raised or flat you are more likely to display a bad temper. The Heart Line cuts laterally across upper palm between mounts of Jupiter and Mercury. Loops, bubbles, cuts and breaks in this line indicate relationships and episodes occurring in a person's love life. The Head Line is normally positioned and can cut across palm or curve downward. It is an indicator of intelligence and mental health. An optimum Head line runs straight, is deep and has a long extension almost to other side of palm. This more headline curves downward towards list, less control individual may have over his or her emotions. The Life Line usually circles thumb and begins under mount of Jupiter and extends to wrist. It encircles Mount of Lower Mars and Venus and in most cases ends at base of hand. This line indicates major life events as well as health of subject. The longer this line is, longer individual will live. The fourth main lie on palm is called Line of Fate (also known as Line of Faith. This line runs vertically from middle of base of palm and up towards middle finger. It is an indicator of material and financial strength. The deeper, stronger and less broken line, more likely person is likely to be successful. It also indicates a serious, business like nature. The line of Apollo is a vertical line that is found on upper part of Mount of Moon. It has been called line of Sun, and line of Brilliancy, and to it has been ascribed gift of great artistic talents, wealth and fame. Not every hand possesses this line. The line of Mercury has been variously called line of Health or line of Liver. It is found either on Mount of Mercury or Plain of Mars. If there is no line you are probably blessed with excellent health. Strong markings in this area indicate troubles with health. There are many Minor Lines that don't appear in every hand but one of best known is Girdle of Venus that starts between Mounts of Jupiter and Saturn and ends around little finger. This line looks like a loop circling three of your four fingers and its presence is supposed to indicate beauty and luck in romance. The hand is filled with all kinds of markings, lines, feathers, stars, and crosses --each with particular meanings. As a rule of thumb (no pun intended) any time you find a marking on a mound, it usually indicates that something special is going on in that department of your life. Next month’s New Age Notebook will go into more detail about meanings of these symbols in hand.

| | What is Evil Eye?Written by Sam Stevens
Continued from page 1 Perhaps one of most familiar preventative measures against evil eye is hand gesture. The Mano Cornufo or “Horned Hand” involves extending first and index fingers from a fist. The Mano Fico or “Fig hand” involves placing thumb in between first and second fingers. Historically there have been many cures for evil eye: In Italy, evil eye is diagnosed by dripping olive oil into a vessel filled with water. If oil conglomerates into shape of an eye than victim is considered officially cursed. Prayers are recited until droplets of oil no longer create an eye shape. In Eastern Europe charcoal, coal or burnt match heads are dropped into a pan of water/. If items float then person is considered to be victim of a curse. In Ukraine, a form of ceromancy or candle reading is used to diagnose curse. Melted wax is dripped from a candle into a pan of water. If wax spits, splatters, or sticks to side of bowl then “patient” is considered to be under influence of malefic eye. Usually patient is cleansed with Holy Water. He or she is pronounced cured when dripped wax sinks bottom of bowl in a round ball. In Greece Mexico and other places, official cure is to invite culprit responsible for evil eye to spit in a vessel of holy water that is consumed by victim. In Mexico, rolling a raw egg over body of victim is antidote. Afterwards, it is cracked open and if metaphysician or healer divines shape of an eye in yolks then person is considered to be cursed. Several eggs may be repeatedly rolled over person’s body until an egg without an eye if found. Sometimes egg is placed underneath person’s bed overnight and cracked open in morning. In China remedy for evil eye is Pa Kua mirror, a six-sided mirror that is hung on front door or placed in front window to reverse bad energy back to sender. Some of these mirrors are convex to reflect back bad “poison darts” or “arrows” of multiple ill wishers and some are concave to reflect energy in a definite direction back at, for instance, a nosy neighbor, whose gaze may have lingered on your garden of tulips for too long. In Feng Shui, mirrors are often used as a cure all to reflect negative energy back at all kinds of things – people, bad architecture, traffic, neighbors, physical obstructions such as trees or rocks or anything else that might considered to be a conductor of Har Shui (negative vibrations). In India mirroring back of evil eye takes form of small mirrors that are sewn, braided or crocheted into clothing. This mirroring back of bad energy is also familiar to practitioners of Wicca and Lukumi or Santeria. In India, human eye is also considered to be a mirror of soul. Indian women wear kohl or heavy black makeup to emphasize their eyes not only to shield themselves from evil eye but also to prevent themselves from accidentally inflicting it on others. In India cords strung with blue beads are placed on newborn babies. When cord breaks and beads are lost child is considered to have a strong enough aura to protect him or herself from evil eye. Red cords worn upon wrist or neck are thought to have a powerful effect against ocular malevolence. A silver charm called Eye of Buddha which references Gautama Buddha is also worn against astral attack. In Italy, gold, silver or gems carved or cast into shape of Mano Fica or Mano Cornufa are used to repel evil. The most coveted ones are made of red coral, but many versions exist today made of gemstones and plastic. They are worn by men to protect against withering of genitals thought to be caused by bad eye. Also Italian in origin is Corno or horn or devil’s horn amulet that is thought to protect against same dysfunction. The women’s version is made from a twig of red coral. In Arab cultures, superstitious types wear an eye in form of a stone cast in center of a hand shaped bone or metal charm A common Egyptian charm is Buckle of Isis which represents menstrual pad of Goddess Isis who was Mother of all living things. Stuffing a little prayer or spell inside a locket that is hung around neck is common European custom for protecting oneself against deadly gazes. A light worker such as myself might advise you to protect yourself in following contemporary ways: Always maintain belief that nobody has power to hurt you with a look. This in itself is a very powerful thought form. Before you go out, imagine that your third eye is actually covered by something that looks like a small pocket mirror. If you are a psychic or a healer then simply close your third eye and don’t open it unless you want to look. If you are feeling haunted or upset as result of a “look”, press your thumb hard into center of your forehead and imagine your third eye quickly flipping. Flick energy away with your thumb and snap your fingers. Always remember that what you resist often persists. The phrase “Oh, so what!” is one of most powerful chemicals in universe that you can use to dissolve negative energy.
