“Well,” one says, “I think I applyrepparttar golden rule by being a completely harmless person. I wouldn’t hurt anyone.” That’s great! The world certainly has room for a lot more harmless folks.

But,repparttar 130039 golden rule is pro-active. It’s not what we don’t do. It’s what we do. And what we do, if we applyrepparttar 130040 rule, is treat others as we would like to be treated – without regard for what another has done to us or for us, and without regard for future repayment.

Tough to apply? You bet! In fact, oftentimes my failure in applyingrepparttar 130041 rule disappoints me. But, we must keep trying, becauserepparttar 130042 benefits are well worthrepparttar 130043 effort. Though it’s a rare person who truly understandsrepparttar 130044 rule and consistently applies it in every relationship, that individual is generally rich in friendships, family and business relationships, good health and happiness.

Making Change Stick

CONNECT WITH 3 PEERS Collaborate and commiserate with others working on a similar goal. Set up regular systems to check in with each other (notice I didn’t say check “on”—that’s why you have a sponsor). These people are your support system. Use meetings, workouts, instant messaging, phone calls, etc…to talk about how you are feeling, get some cheerleading, share wisdom, and have some fun.

CELEBRATE SOME QUICK WINS Set up some short term, achievable milestones early on. We all need to see progress quickly or we start to lose focus. Wins build momentum and energize us. Break your larger goal down into simple, short, achievable milestones so you can see progress within days, not weeks or months. Then celebrate your victories! Make it rewarding, but not in conflict with your goal. For example, if you are taking care of your body and trying to lose weight, don’t reward yourself with a big cake that immediately (at least in your mind) undoesrepparttar accomplishment. Instead pamper yourself with a pedicure or a quiet hour in a favorite spot.

Takingrepparttar 130038 time to putrepparttar 130039 right systems in place will pay off inrepparttar 130040 end. Don’t go it alone. Succeeding is not just about working harder and being committed.
