A Guide to Non-Typical Catfish Fishing Techniques Part IIWritten by Jeff Williams
Continued from page 1
Next I bait my rods, staggering them at depth I see fish. If fish are up high, above 10 feet, I use a balloon and live shad on two rods. The other four rods will have half live and half cut shad, which I will suspend over fish, continuously moving around marker until first strike occurs. In warmer months bite will usually occur on live shad. The colder water, better that cut bait seems to work. Keep moving depth of your baits up and down according to what your locator is telling you. An easy way to determine depth of your bait is to measure distance between first guide and your rod’s reel. My rods are two feet from reel to first guide so when I pull out twenty sections of line between my reel and first guide, my bait will be approximately 40 feet deep. Stagger depth of your bait so that you know how deep each is. When you get your first strike, move your other rods to that depth. If no strikes occur within 30 minutes move to another structure. I have set on same ledge for many hours and caught fish, but I will usually have to move after catching 5 to 10 active fish. If you do not have a trolling motor you can use anchors, but it requires many sessions of heaving up heavy anchors and can soon kill fun of ledge fishing. When water is at its coldest, anchor method will work better due to inactivity of fish below. In other words, warmer water faster fish will spook out from under your boat. The colder water less chance fish will want to move away due to their comfort zone in water column. Make sure to read Part 3 of this article to learn about Capt. Jeff's second non-typical technique! As luck would have it, a federal judge agreed and ruled in favor of Lee. How much monetary compensation does this mean? Well to put it in perspective, two Spider- Man movies thus far, have reaped on order of 800 million dollars apiece, in world wide ticket sales. This settlement could mean tens of millions of dollars for Lee, but battle is not over. Marvel, will quite probably appeal verdict and case may be tied up in courts for years. Now don't go feeling too badly for Stan Lee. He is still pulling down a salary from Marvel on order of a million dollars. Still not to shabby in my mind. And Lee has mixed feels because he has been loyal to Marvel for 60 years. To have his lifelong employer trying to, shall we say, stiff him, for being so loyal, I'm sure, does hurt. Had it not been for Lee, Marvel may not have been in financial position they are today. At 82, Stan Lee does have a comfortable and successful life. And if even his settlement is held up in courts for years, Stan won first round. He didn't bow down to corporate hammer. Just another "Joe working class hero" yelling out, hey guys, let's play by rules.
