A Girlfriends Getaway -- Do's and Dont'sWritten by Valerie McDermott
Continued from page 1 Don’t...overpack. One tip is to stay with 1 color scheme for weekend so everything can mix and match. (FYI Black is always in) Do...bring along a financially savvy person. There is always one in bunch they can help with tips, negotiating for better hotel rooms, splitting costs, bargain shopping, they will talk you out of that impulse buy, etc. If you do not have a girlfriend like this really make a point of finding one. Don’t...pack new shoes. Whether at a spa or resort hotel you're sure to do a lot of walking. Nothing ruins an evening like sore feet. Do...make it a point to travel with special girls in your life annually.

Continued from page 1 After my de-briefing, we break down into groups. Four of girls went for a long walk on beach and 3 of us decide to take in scenery with a bike ride to breathtaking Mohegan Bluffs. We rented bikes for 1 hours (no need to kill ourselves) and road straight uphill to our destination. After oohing and aahing over views we returned our bikes, donned our bathing suits and hit beach. The afternoon passed quickly at a beach side bar called Ballards. With cocktail service to our chairs and a band playing great music there is no need to move. We drink Coronas, read trashy magazines, talk about kids, husbands, having crushes, trying to have more children, trying not to have more children, our bodies, other women’s bodies, guy throwing footballs’ body. Most importantly we talk about how lucky we are that we have all remained friends over years. Every year logistics of getting away with girlfriends gets more complicated. Every year rewards of getting away with girlfriends get bigger. Start this tradition yourself and you will know what I mean..
